Program Overview and Purpose

The Saturday “Build Your Capacity” Program by Safe Care NSW is a community-based program designed to support participants to develop social, recreational, emotional, and practical life skills through fun, inclusive, and meaningful weekend activities.

Each Saturday program is carefully planned to encourage community participation, confidence, independence, communication, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle choices. Participants may take part in activities such as sports, park outings, sensory play, creative activities, group games, healthy eating, music, fitness, recreation, and community access experiences.

The purpose of this program is to create opportunities for participants to engage with others, explore new environments, build friendships, develop confidence, and strengthen their independence in the community.

Safe Care NSW uses the Saturday program to support real-life capacity building in a natural and enjoyable way. Through structured outings and group activities, participants are encouraged to practise communication, turn-taking, decision-making, emotional regulation, road and community safety, and positive social interaction.

This program also provides families with a reliable and supportive weekend option that focuses on more than just recreation. Each activity is designed with participant outcomes, safety, inclusion, and personal development in mind.
